Placer County, California Bridges: Sierra Blvd Bridge across the Union Pacific (1)

August 2012 (38.7542 Degrees, -121.2849 Degrees) Sierra Blvd Bridge
Bridges are often used to provide grade separations between roads and rails. When the bridge carries the railway over  the roadway we call it an Underpass. When a bridge carries the roadway over a railway we call in an Overhead.

Roseville (like Auburn and Colfax) is a railway town with underpasses and overheads (and at-grade crossings). Today's bridge carries a city street, Sierra Blvd. over the Union Pacific line. It has a pony arch main span and concrete slab approach spans. We'll take a closer look at this bridge tomorrow.
