March 2011 (-43.540 Degrees, 172.637 Degrees) Moorhouse Overbridge
This photo shows the remaining split-column pier on the Moorhouse Bridge (the other split-column pier was locked up). This was where most of the displacement occurred during the February earthquake and consequently its the location of the most severe bridge damage (see below). Note the elaborate shoring that was used to re-open the bridge. I wonder if they were able to replace the damaged pier while the bridge remained open to traffic?
