April 2014 (38.00478 Degrees, -121.53175 Degrees) South Bacon Island Road Bridge |
The South Bacon Island Road Bridge is a two span structure with a 204 ft long Pratt truss swing span, a shorter truss approach span, and it has a timber 18 ft wide deck. There's a bridge tender's house overhanging the deck but no motorized gates, at least on the north side of the bridge. Shallow floor beams support the timber deck and I don't even see a vertical clearance restriction of a weight restriction on this bridge. The Historic Bridge Website states: This privately owned bridge is a rare example of a highway truss swing bridge with pin connections.
