The superstructure rests on reinforced concrete pier walls that are covered in moss. I would guess that they were built for an older bridge and are being reused for this new truss superstructure.
The river is a fast moving rapids that is full of boulders at this bridge site. Maybe not the best place to put a kayak into the river even if the road was passable.
