Japan's Bridges: Hirose River Bridge, Miyagi Prefecture

June 2011 (38.236 Degrees, 140.889 Degrees) Hirose River Bridge
This is the bridge I was standing on while taking yesterday's photo. It's similar to the Miyazawa Bridge but with bastions at the ends of the pier walls for viewing the river. This bridge is much wider than the Miyazawa with five traffic lanes (including a left turn lane at opposite ends of the bridge) and wide sidewalks.

The Hirose River flows underneath and then joins the Natori River for the short trip to the Pacific. A flood gauge along the river bank suggests that this entire area gets filled with water during the rainy season.
