Sacramento County, California Bridges: Southern Pacific Railway Bridges at State Route 99

September 2013 (38.3621 Degrees, -121.3471 Degrees) Southern Pacific Railway Bridges
Before we leave Southwest Sacramento County, I wanted to show two last Southern Pacific Railroad Bridges. The first bridge crosses over southbound State Route 99 with a highly skewed through girder bridge. The McConnell Underpass (24 0048L) is a 100 ft long  single span steel girder and floor beam system bridge on a 69 degree skew that was built in 1934. The second bridge carries northbound State Route 99 over the Southern Pacific Railroad on a three span steel girder bridge. The McConnell Overhead (24 0073R) is on a 62 degree skew and was built in 1958.
Apparently, the southbound lanes were the original State Route 99 and they built the northbound lanes later.
