September 2013 (38.50038 Degrees, -121.04530 Degrees) Michigan Bar Bridge |
The Michigan Bar Bridge (24C0056) has old stone piers that once carried a covered bridge over the Cosumnes River. By the 1940s, the covered bridge was gone and so they put two Bailey Bridge spans (and two steel girder spans) onto the piers.
This was gold mining country in the 19th century and I think that some prospectors from Michigan named this bridge site. Note how narrow the deck is and the flimsy bridge railing.
