El Dorado County, California Bridges: Rocky Bar Road Bridge across the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes River (2)

February 2013 (38.6090 Degrees, -120.6133 Degrees) Rocky Bar Bridge
A few last photos of the Rocky Bar Road Bridge across the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes River. The bridge has a timber deck sitting on steel girder floor beams that are supported by steel stringer approaches and a through truss center span. The bridge is about 110 ft long with a 70 ft long center span.
The superstructure rests on reinforced concrete pier walls that are covered in moss. I would guess that they were built for an older bridge and are being reused for this new truss superstructure.
The river is a fast moving rapids that is full of boulders at this bridge site. Maybe not the best place to put a kayak into the river even if the road was passable.
