El Dorado County, California Bridges: Mt Aukum Bridge across the North Fork of the Cosumnes River (1)

January 2013 (38.6592 Degrees, -120.6779 Degrees) Mount Aukum Road Bridge
The next bridge across the North Fork of the Cosumnes River is a three span steel stringer structure on tall single column bents with hammerhead bent caps. The very steep riverbank is covered in manzanita. Only two girders support the bridge deck, which carries a two lane road (see below).
This highway is called Mount Aukum Road but it's also part of County Route 16. The picture includes an (almost) full moon near the right edge of the photo (also my truck on the left shoulder).

We'll take another look at this bridge tomorrow.
