Alameda County, California Bridges: Park Street Bridge across Oakland Estuary (2)

June 2014 (37.77194 Degrees-122.23583 Degrees ) Park Street Bridge
The Park Street Bridge (33C0027) is a double leaf bascule bridge across the Oakland Estuary between Alameda Island and the mainland. It's 700 ft long, 44 ft wide, and it was built in 1934. This is an unusual bascule bridge similar to the Kinzie Street Railroad Bridge in Chicago. In addition to counterweights, a gear-like rack and pinion system rotates the ends of the bascule spans upward to allow ships to pass.
