Tokyo Japan's Bridges: Goshiki Zakura Big Bridge across the Arakawa (1)

Continuing down the Arakawa we come to Kohoku Junction and the Goshiki Zakura Ohashi. This bridge is very popular with photographers, especially when it's lit up at night. Perhaps that's why it's name means Five Color Cherry Bridge. It's similar to a double-deck Nielsen Arch (a Japanese tied arch bridge with crossing cables). However, it's a pony arch and the arches are not inclined towards each other like most Nielsen Arches.

There was a constant stream of dump trucks driving on the bike lanes when I took this photo. They must be improving flood control along the river. This area has so many dramatic bridge structures that we'll return tomorrow for another look.
