August 1999 (34.1161 Degrees, -118.2675 Degrees) Los Angeles River Bridges |
Continuing down the Los Angeles River I turned back to photograph the Sunnynook and Los Feliz Bridges. Note the steeply rising Santa Monica Mountains on the left and the Verdugo Mountains in the distance. Behind the Sunnynook Pedestrian Bridge is the Los Feliz Blvd Bridge (53C1239), a 6 span continuous T girder bridge that was built in 1925. It has very long cutwaters both up and downstream.
The Sunnynook Pedestrian Bridge carries people over the river between Griffith Park and a big residential area. It has tall, skinny hexagonal concrete piers with timber on the outside to protect them from debris during storms. It has a seven span through truss superstructure and it's just wide enough two carry two people walking abreast.
