Yuba County, California Bridges: Honcut Road Bridge across South Honcut Creek

October 2013 (39.33278 Degrees, -121.46889 Degrees) Honcut Road Bridge
I was pretty disappointed after driving all the way to the border with Butte County to see the famous South Honcut Bridge (one of three known remaining examples of "canticrete" bridge construction in California) only to discover it had been replaced with a two span box girder bridge.
The 1914 South Honcut Bridge (16C0025) was a five span concrete 'truss' bridge where the truss was apparently embedded in the concrete. It was suppose to represent the evolution of reinforced concrete according to the Library of Congress, although I'm pretty sure they had rebar in 1914.
Not only did the Bridgehunter say that the 1914 bridge was still open but so did the National Bridge Inventory, so it must have been replaced very recently. Still it's strange that such an interesting 100 year old bridge (eligible for the Historic Register) could be torn down. Maybe I went to the wrong bridge site?
