Calaveras County, California Bridges: Parrots Ferry Bridge across the Stanislaus River (1)

May 2013 (38.04583 Degrees, -120.44889 Degrees) Parrots Ferry Bridge
Continuing upstream on the Stanislaus River we arrived at the Parrots Ferry Bridge (32C0076). Like the previously studied OByrnes Ferry Bridge across the Stanislaus River, this bridge was also built across an old ferry route, but it's in a more remote location and gets less than 1000 vehicles a day.  The ferry connected the old mining towns of Tuttletown and Vallecito and during the summer they had to sandbag the river so it could still carry the ferry.

Today the ferry is long gone and the bridge crosses the narrowing New Melones Reservoir (three miles upstream from the New Melones Bridge). We'll take another look at this interesting structure tomorrow.
