Los Angeles County, California Bridges: Riverside Drive Bridge across the Los Angeles River

August 1999 (34.15614 Degrees, -118.29432 Degrees) Los Angeles River Bridge
A lot happens along the river between the West Olive Avenue Bridge and the Riverside Drive Bridge. The Los Angeles River flows past Forest Lawn Cemetery (on the right bank) and past Warner Bros Film Studios (on the left bank). The river now has a sandy bottom but transmission lines run along the right bank. We are in Griffith Park and Riverside Drive takes us south into the zoo.

The Riverside Bridge (53C1298) is a pretty five span T girder bridge on a 40 degree skew. It was built in 1938 and has a very 'art deco' appearance with geometric ornamentation, sloping exterior girders, and with all the elements working together to create a very concise aesthetic expression.
