Sonoma County, California Bridges: Old Duncans Grade Road across Austin Creek

September 2014 (38.47083 Degrees, -123.04694 Degrees) Austin Creek Bridge
Continuing west along the Bohemian Highway (State Route 116) we arrived at the Old Duncans Grade Road Bridge (20C0094) across Austin Creek. The bridge is a two span Pratt truss across a tributary of the Russian River. The bridge was built in 1924 but it's now closed except for pedestrians.

I like how they protected the bridge from errant vehicles by attaching parallel steel barrier rails along the inside of the truss spans. Perhaps it was from the days when trucks loaded with freshly cut trees used to travel these roads.
