Sacramento County, California Bridges: Folsom Blvd. Bridge across the American River

October 2009 (38.67944 Degrees, -121.18083 Degrees) Lake Natoma Bridge
As long as we are in the neighborhood, I thought I'd include a photo of the notorious Lake Natoma Bridge. As can be seen in today's photo the designer included decorative arch elements under a haunched box girder bridge. The last time I showed this bridge, I received a comment from the Happy Pontist criticizing the design.

The bridge was built in 1999 in the City of Folsom as a means to relieve traffic from the nearby Rainbow Bridge. The Lake Natoma Bridge is 2264 ft long with 330 ft long spans over the swollen American River (due to the Natoma Dam). Traffic on this 136 ft wide bridge is over 20,000 vehicles a day.

  1. Yes, it doesn't get any better any time I see it. Absolutely awful!
