Los Angeles County, California Bridges: Sixth Street Bridge across the Los Angeles River (1)

August 2013 (34.03722 Degrees, -118.23038 Degrees) 6th Street Bridge
Last week I flew to Los Angeles for a field review of the new 6th Street Bridge replacement project. Most of the other bridges across the Los Angeles River had gotten a seismic retrofit in the 1990s but it was decided to replace the 6th Street Viaduct (53C1880) with a new, iconic structure to revitalize the area.

The existing bridge crosses over city streets, a railroad yard, the L.A, River, and Interstate 101. It is a long reinforced concrete T girder viaduct with two steel arches over the river. We'll take another look at this interesting bridge tomorrow.
