India's Bridges: Transportation Structure at Port Blair, South Andaman Island

We are now in the Andaman Islands, close to the epicenter of the 2004 earthquake. This is another of those highway facilities with culverts to allow water to flow under the structure. Unfortunately, the Andaman Islands subsided a meter during the earthquake, and so the culverts are now flowing full.

These islands are the home to several indigenous groups who need to be protected from contact with people from the mainland. Consequently, our travel through the islands was severely restricted.
