Michigan's Bridges: 18 1/2 Mile Road Overcrossing in Calhoun County

August 2011 (42.282 Degrees, -84.936 Degrees) 18 1/2 Mile Road Overcrossing
Continuing east on I-94 is the 18 1/2 Mile Road Overcrossing. It's similar to yesterday's bridge, except that it still has it's original barrier rail. Also, the girders aren't as long or as deep as on the 17 1/2 Mile Road Overcrossing, which crosses I-94 at a high skew. Today's bridge is 227 ft long, 24 ft wide, and it provides 16 ft vertical clearance over I-94, according the Historic Bridges website. Also according to the website, this section of I-94 may eventually be widened to six lanes, which could require the removal of these attractive haunched girder bridges.
